Oprah Convinced Tom Cruise - Katie Holmes' Relationship Was A Publicity Stunt

Winfrey: "I was not buying it."

The queen of talk-shows Oprah Winfrey recently confessed that she was convinced that the Tom Cruise - Katie Holmes' romantic relationship was just a publicity stunt, especially after the jumping couch episode with Cruise during one of her shows.

Cruise, 43, started dating Holmes, 26, in April 2005 and during their relationship, the actress reportedly joined the Church of Scientology as a result of Tom's influence. Katie and Tom got engaged after the superstar proposed her in the early morning of June 17, 2005 atop Paris's Eiffel Tower.

Nevertheless, the couple was accused of publicity stunt, the newspapers claiming their so-called relationship was used only to promote their latest movies "Batman Begins" and "War Of The Worlds".

Promoting her 20th anniversary DVD collection, Oprah admitted that she also thought their love was fake. "I was just as surprised as the rest of you because I've interviewed him many, many times, spent time with him and I've never seen him that way," she told her audience.

Oprah also declared: "It was wilder than it was appearing to me. I was just trying to maintain the truth for myself because I couldn't figure out what was going on. I was not buying - not buying or not buying. That's why I kept saying 'you're gone, you're really gone'."
