Microsoft announced on Wednesday that they received reports that some of their newly released Xbox 360 consoles are not working as expected.
Reports on Microsoft's Xbox forum as well as other sites (www.engadget.com and www.xbox-scene.com) said the Xbox 360 showed problems (black screens and error messages) and crashes during both regular and online game play.
"So, the Xbox 360's been available for, what, 15 minutes, and already the crash reports are streaming in," said a poster on engadget.
According to Microsoft officials, the calls and reports received represent only a small fraction of the units sold. They added that the owners of Xbox 360 units that are experiencing system crashes should call 1-800-4MY-XBOX.
The official Xbox website has already set up a few web pages that explain what to do in certain circumstances.
For instance, if "You receive a 'System Error' message in multiple languages" then the cause is, according to Microsoft "caused by a hardware failure" in which case you should contact them.
Another page about "Three red lights flash on the Ring of Light" is also connected to hardware failure.
