Legendary singer Sir Cliff Richard pleaded yesterday for gay acceptance from the church, arguing that the time has come for the Christianity to give up the prejudices and "learn to deal" with homosexuality, because the world has changed during the last 2000 years.
Richard, 65, one of the United Kingdom's most popular singers, also declared during a TV interview that being gay doesn't mean you lack talent, claiming that if it was possible, some of them could even be good priests.
During the interview with Sky Report on British TV channel Sky News, Cliff said: "I'm sad because we have to learn to deal with everything. Everything has changed. The church has got to come to terms with the fact that things have changed since even Jesus has died. It's only a mere 2,000 years."
He added: "I mean slavery was an in-thing at one time. We were told to deal with it. And we've dealt with it. And we've got to deal with every aspect of life. "
"There are gay people in this world," continued Richard. "Some of them are very talented. Some of them could be great priests."
