Argentine football legend Diego Maradona signed up a deal to appear in a biopic movie chronicling his drug-induced fall from grace.
Maradona has been battling a cocaine addiction since 1990s, which included spells in Swiss and Cuban detoxify clinics. On April 18, 2004, doctors reported that Maradona had suffered a major heart attack following a cocaine overdose; he was admitted to intensive care in a Buenos Aires hospital.
Ever since, the Argentine soccer has been fighting his drug addiction. The film's director Marco Risi wants to pull out the dark side of Maradona.
He explains: "What interests me is to tell the story of the darker side of Maradona - his desire to self-destruct, the years in which he was a slave of cocaine. I want to understand how he fell and how he was reborn."
