Britney Spears Branded "Irresponsible" By U.S. Transportation Secretary

Secretary Norman Mineta: "It's irresponsible to compromise the safety of a child for the sake of the moment."

Despite the fact that pop princess Britney Spears tried to let behind the photo scandal and returned to work, the incident is far from being over. Yesterday, according to AP, U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta branded Britney as "irresponsible", for driving with her four-month old baby boy on her lap.

Mineta stated that even though Spears apologized for the incident and acknowledged her mistake, she sent a wrong message to her fans and for the future she should be more carefully in her actions.

Mineta says, "Recent photos of Britney Spears driving with her infant son on her lap are troubling. And while Ms Spears has acknowledged her mistake, her actions still send the wrong message to millions of her fans."

He adds: "No matter who you are, there's absolutely no excuse for this display - not instinct, not fear, not even reckless paparazzi. It's irresponsible to compromise the safety of a child for the sake of the moment."

"So, I'm asking everyone today to put the safety of all of our children first," Mineta said. "Put your children in booster seats, buckle them up, buckle yourself up and obey driving laws."

Last week, Spears, 24, was photographed driving down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California on Monday, with her baby on her lap, and accompanied by a bodyguard, who was staying on her right.

The incident caught the attention of child welfare authorities, because it appears that Britney endangered her baby's life by violating the motor safety laws, which requires children to ride in a car seat until they are at least 6 years old or weigh 60 pounds.

Later in an interview broadcast by the TV show, "Access Hollywood" Britney said: "I made a mistake and so it is what it is, I guess. Being put in the situation that I was in, it was kind of bad with the paparazzi."
