Google Spreadsheets pre-beta will be launched on Tuesday, 9am EDT. Those that will be in the test group can invite their friends, family, and coworkers to Google Spreadsheets.
Google Spreadsheets is expected to emphasize the web-based application side, preparing for a future in which large projects will be centralized, and developed from anywhere in the world, by up to 10 users simultaneously, unlike Microsoft's Excel, which relies mainly on its stand-alone characteristic.
Google Spreadsheet follows technology created by purchased software developer 2Web Technologies.
Google Spreadsheets will compete with previous web-based spreadsheets editors created by JotSpot, Thinkfree Corp., and Smallthought Systems Inc.
Google's spreadsheet editor seems to have dim chances of ever competing with Microsoft's two-decade experience in document processing, but the Mountain.View team has previously demonstrated that everything starts with a small project:
