The search engine company will, on one hand, acquire the Googleplex for USD319 mln, on the other it will launch an Oregon-based data center.
The owner of the Mountain View, California, Googleplex filed for bankruptcy to the SEC in May. Silicon Graphics bankruptcy is conducted by a court, which will probably be glad of Google's serious intention, proven by an already established escrow account.
The Googleplex has been home to Google's masterminds since 2003, turning the site into one of the most famous headquarters.
In November 2005, SGI announced that they had been delisted from the New York Stock Exchange because their common stock had fallen below the minimum share price for listing on the exchange. In February 2006, the company announced that it may run out of cash by the end of the year, forcing a sale of the company or even bankruptcy. On May 8th 2006, it was announced that SGI had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
