Nikolai Zherdev, A Blue Jacket For The Next Three Years

21-year-old Nikolai Zherdev rejoins Columbus Blue Jackets for the amount of $US 7.5 million.

"I am very happy to remain a Blue Jacket. I am excited about our team and look forward to joining my teammates in Columbus as soon as possible," declared the Russian hockey player.

The contract Nikolai recently ended mentions that the Russian will participate in competitions for Columbus until 2009. The player comes after a glorious season, having scored 27 goals.

The contract states that the 21-year-old hockey player will earn $US 1.75 million in the next season and $US 2.5 million during 2007's season. Columbus has committed to pay Nikolai the amount of $US 3.25 million for 2008-2009.

Columbus General Manager, Doug MacLean, is hoping that his acquisition will be a true success. Nikolai Zherdev scored 37 points in his 39 games at Columbus Blue Jackets.

"Nikolai is a supremely talented player with the ability to bring fans out of their seats every time he steps on the ice. I think this agreement shows the commitment the Blue Jackets have to him and also the commitment he has to our organization and fans. We think this season is going to be our best yet and Nikolai will be a big part of any success we have moving forward," declared Doug MacLean.
