Nick Lachey Blames 'Newlyweds' for His Divorce

Although they are not a couple for quite some time now, Nick Lachey still has regrets when it comes to his marriage with Jessica Simpson.

Apparently, Nick blames his reality show "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica" for his divorce. During an interview with David Letterman on "The Late Show With David Letterman," Lachey named "Newlyweds" a "dumb idea" insisting that the show was partly responsible for crashing his marriage with Jessica.

Asked whether the show made their marriage better and stronger Lachey replied, "About that. Not so much. I don't think so... it was among the dumber ideas I think I've ever seen executed in history."

"For a while, I think we actually enjoyed doing the show as well. It was just so invasive that it became a problem," he added.

Moreover, when Letterman asked whether the show contributed or not to their split Lachey said, "You know that's one of those things where I think until you get enough hindsight and enough clarity and perspective, I don't think you can really know what happened. But, I certainly think it was probably a factor."

Lachey also suggested that he is still having some feelings for Jessica and hopes that, in time, their relationship will get better. "I think both of us have handled it about as well as we possibly could, under the microscope that we're under and everything. But, I think, again, with time, it'll give us a better opportunity to redefine our relationship."

Simpson and Nick officially announced their divorce on Nov 23, 2005, after months of denials and rumors, stating: "After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways." Their divorce was final in July 2006.
