The Friendship Between Gigi Becali and Traian Basescu, Ruined

Becali, PNG party leader, attacked Basescu.

Becali, FC Steaua football club owner and PNG party leader, accused Romania's President, Traian Basescu, of "communist backstage games" in order to support the dissident PNL movement, led by Theodor Stolojan and Valeriu Stoica.

Gigi Becali, when questioned about who is behind the new political group, answered that it is without doubt Basescu.

"All these movements belong to the old communist structures. This is the way politics (in Romania) has been done ever since. There were backstage games, and the big parties split in smaller organizations, out of which the one having started the split won. Look up FSN, PDSR, CDR!"

As for the reasons that made him turn against Basescu, Becali commented:

"I once said I know Basescu, but was wrong. When we sit and talk, he seems a very good man. Then, I find out that he is into backstage games, into different movements. He is a man with many faces, of whom I do not know any longer what to think. You cannot reason with him."

Gigi Becali, born George Becali on June 25th 1958 in Braila, is PNG party president, after having made a fortune from real estate deals. He is the founding member of the Christian Foundation "G.Becali," main shareholder in Dragasani Mechanical Plant, Avicola SA Iasi, and FC Steaua Bucuresti, "the star" of Romanian football.
