Jelena Prokopcuka successfully completed the race in 2 hours, 25 minutes and 5 seconds and became one of the few women to consecutively win two New York City Marathon titles.
"It was a star-studded field out there, and I knew it was going to be a tough day. And it was," stated Jelena Prokopcuka shortly after her fantastic race.
The athlete dominated the entire marathon which took place this Sunday, November 5 and included nearly 37,000 runners.
Tatiana Hladyr of Ukraine came second, one minute after champion Jelena Prokopcuka, while Catherine Ndereba won the bronze medal. Kenyan Rita Jeptoo, who won this year's Boston Marathon title, finished the race on the fourth place. American runner Katie McGregor who is participating at her first marathon came ninth.
In the men's race Brazilian Marilson Gomes dos Santos won the marathon with a 2 hours, 9 minutes, 58 seconds time. Marilson Gomes dos Santos was fallowed by Stephen Kiogora and Paul Tergat.
