Boy George Back In UK After Drug Charges In US

Boy George: "Don't ask me any questions because you aren't going to get any answers."

Singer Boy George returned to the UK just two days after he was arrested and charged for drug possession in New York.

George refused to comment the incident from the United States as he arrived at the London airport on Sunday. "I am not speaking to anybody about it," George told reporters at Heathrow. "Don't ask me any questions because you aren't going to get any answers."

The singer apartment from Manhattan had been searched by police officers after somebody, who it is believed was George, called 911 around 3 AM to report a burglary. When the police arrived at the location, the door was opened and the star greeted them asking "What's up?".

The officers started to search the apartment and found a small amount of cocaine next to his computer. "It was a small amount of drugs," Lou Freeman told the New York Post.

"He doesn't know where it came from. He's had a lot of people in his house."

"A man who has something to hide does not call police," said Mr Freeman.

Boy George was arrested and held a few hours to the New York police before being transferred to the Manhattan criminal court, where he was charged for arraignment on drug possession and falsely reporting a burglary.

Human rights lawyer Mark Stephens said: "Boy George is innocent until proved guilty but if he's found guilty it could have major implications for him to be allowed into the US. He would effectively be excluded."

"If there's going to be an exception made it has to be made at a high level - the attorney-general."

"It's treated on a case-by-case basis, he would not be able to get a visa to get in. He would have to get permission to be allowed into the country."

"They treat drug convictions very seriously in America."

If convicted, Boy George, who was scheduled to return to court on 19 December, faces up to 15 years of prison.
