World Cyber Games 2005 preview

Impressions about last year and what’s in store for this year’s event

The World Cyber Games (WCG) is the world's biggest annual gaming competition. Just like any other competition, players from all around the world gather in one place and fight for the supreme title of WCG champion in various computer games for fame and prizes that exceed $20,000 US.

Last year's WCG competition was held in October in San Francisco, US.

In an interview that Romanian Unreal Tournament player Ucs gave to Spotlightingnews.com, he said that last year's WCG was "one of the best gaming tournaments I've been to" and that, even though he wasn't in his top form he is proud to have participated to such a "great event".

"Everything was organized very well, we had good computers to play on and it was simply great to be surrounded by so many people that share the same hobbies as I do", he added.

When asked about what it takes to get there, he said that "it takes a lot of work to become one of the top players in your country at any game. You simply have to really enjoy playing the game you choose - otherwise you'll get bored too fast and won't practice as much as it's needed to qualify. Also, you have to be the best player to be sure you'll qualify, as many things vary when playing an official game such as you getting nervous, playing on a different PC than your own, the people watching you etc".

This year's WCG will be held at Suntec, Singapore for five days, between the 16th and 20th November. The games that will be played are Counter Strike: Source, FIFA Soccer 2005, Need For Speed: Underground 2, StarCraft: Brood War, WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Dead or Alive Ultimate and Halo 2.
